Family Provider Partnership
Family members play an integral role in the governance of the Family Services Division of Catholic Charities. Many families have committed their time and energies to participate on our Quality Committees where their input is crucial in ensuring that the family perspective is considered in every important decision made.
No initiative within the Family Services division has been as important as our Family Provider Partnership. The research has been clear that family involvement, family action, family investment and families who care produce positive outcomes for children in the fields of education and mental health.
Over the years, our Partnership has evolved to include two Family Support Specialists, one of which is a Catholic Charities employee and the other an independent contractor.
The nature of the work includes supporting families by being a part of the Team process, helping them to understand their role in their child’s treatment and to bridge the gap if necessary between the family and staff. These support Specialists play a key role in ensuring that the Partnership grows.
As a result of this Partnership, families share the power and responsibility of making decisions about the way services are provided. Family members are involved in all facets of their child’s care. Families are active members of the treatment team and participate on program committees aimed at improving our quality of services to children and families.
An essential part of our work with families is providing opportunities for sharing experiences and resources in a non-judgmental, supportive environment. These opportunities have been created through the development of family support groups held throughout central Maryland. These support groups, which are free and open to all, are held in Baltimore City, Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Harford Counties.
