In a Year Fraught with Challenge, Catholic Charities’ Comfort & Joy warms December with Virtual Gifts forAll

November 24, 2020

Baltimore, Md. – This year, holiday festivities may be different, but that doesn’t mean the spirit isn’t still alive.

All December long, Catholic Charities will share Comfort & Joy, a free, 31-day virtual series designed to gift neighbors with a little holiday cheer each day. The series, hosted at comfortandjoy2020.org and presented by McCormick & Company, will feature a variety of glad tidings for the whole family, including Gift Tag Tuesday, sponsored by Harkins Builders, where you’ll share in the joy of giving by seeing the impact it has on our neighbors; Midweek Music, with festive musical features from local standouts like the Baltimore Choral Arts Society, the Morgan State University Choir, and the Mount Vernon Camerata, comprised of members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and others; Cookie Jar Friday, featuring unique cookie recipes and bake-along videos from McCormick chefs and sponsor Domino Sugar; and Sunday Reflections to let you spend a little time making your spirit bright.

“We can’t deny the fact that it’s been a very long and painful year in our community,” said Catholic Charities Executive Director William J. McCarthy Jr. “We wanted to give everyone the chance to feel that feeling that only happens this time of year, and to give it freely online, so we can still share in the celebration of the season.”

“McCormick is proud to partner with the Catholic Charities of Baltimore to share comfort and joy this holiday season,” said Michael Smith, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for McCormick & Company. “McCormick products have always had a special place in kitchens throughout Baltimore, and around the world, during the holidays, and we’re excited to spread holiday cheer as we continue to be a part of our consumers’ cherished holiday traditions.”

Comfort & Joy is designed to be a celebration which brings our various communities together, no matter their circumstances. The communal collaboration of this month-long virtual gift is deliberate, to highlight the power of community to improve lives.

“It is an honor to take part in Catholic Charities’ Comfort & Joy virtual celebration,” said Andrew Balio, principal trumpet of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and founder of the Mount Vernon Camerata. “My hope is that even though we are all cooped up inside, we are still a very cohesive community in Baltimore. Catholic Charities is the cornerstone of philanthropy in Baltimore and we are really happy to be part of this celebration.”

This year, we all need a little Christmas. Find it at comfortandjoy2020.org.
