Position description

Facilitate an Elective Class for Christopher Place Employment Academy. Electives are personal enrichment courses that are designed to broaden the horizons, expand the interests, and improve the overall development of the individual. The workshops will be for residents of Christopher Place who are at the Pre Academy or Academy Level. Christopher Place Employment Academy is an intensive residential program that provides education and training as well as emotional, spiritual, and addiction recovery support to formerly homeless men. We invite the participants to engage in a process of change that moves them from homelessness to permanent stable living, trains them to obtain employment, and empowers them to live a life free of drugs and alcohol.

Hours or times of day volunteers are needed: One or two days per week. Monday - Friday (7:00pm - 8:30pm), Saturday (10:00am - 11:30am), or Sunday (1:00pm - 2:30pm). Days are flexible, but time slots are not. Pre-Academy classes will run 3-12 weeks in duration, Academy class will run for 14 weeks.

Special skills required or recommended for this position: Orientation will be provided. Must have a background in the topic of the Elective Class. Must be creative, enthusiastic and have a “can do” attitude; must have the ability to communicate effectively in front of a group; must be organized and like to work independently; must be able to develop effective working relationships with students.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Class Facilitation

· Lead Core Class directed at Christopher Place residents in their Academy Phase
· Develop a method to assess participants' learning, if applicable
· Assess residents' progress and report this information back to the Curriculum Manager

Session Coordination

· Prepare an outline of the topics to be covered in the Core Class
· Submit a copy of the curriculum to the Curriculum Manager
