Villa Maria School Students Learn About Giving Back
Middle-school students from Villa Maria School at the Timonium Campus learned what it feels like to help others when they participated in a project called Give to Yourself & Give to Others.
The students set out to make hats for children who attend St. Jerome’s Head Start. They learned many skills including using the sewing machine, hand-sewing and measuring. The students also made a healthy snack of trail mix and created coloring books for them.
When the Jerome’s Head Start students came to visit, the Villa Maria students welcomed them to their classrooms where they all colored and played games. They were thrilled to receive their new hats and extras were given to staff for those who were unable to come.
The project gave the students an opportunity to give back and to earn service learning hours required for school graduation. They also learned how good it feels to receive a thank you when the Head Start children sent a giant thank you card that they made with their hand prints.
