Pastoral Care at St. Elizabeth's

Pastoral Care Associate Carol Zieba

Pastoral Care Associate Carol Zieba
Mondays at 10:00 a.m., Carol is in Noah’s Place a memory care neighborhood at St. Elizabeth Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for Bible Study. Each meeting starts with prayers then a reading of a passage from scripture. This particular morning, it is the reading from Luke that finds Jesus teaching in the Temple. “The spirit of the Lord in upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings….” Carol carefully leads the discussion of the passage to be sure that everyone is included. She covers the themes several ways using repetition and crossword and word recognition puzzles to help jog and reinforce memory, while conveying the underlying theme and acknowledging each person’s contribution to the conversation. Carol says that she enjoys these sessions regardless of the level of participation. Often Elders can remember important points from a spiritual passage because they first learned them in childhood. Seeing a glimmer of recognition in elder’s eyes can be reward enough.
