Deja's Extra Efforts Pay Off

Deja and her one year-old daughter, Peyton, came to Sarah’s House Emergency Shelter in March of 2015. Initially, Deja struggled to adjust to being a part of a structured program, but she knew that Sarah's House would be the best place for them. She was determined to do whatever it took to get her family back to self-sufficiency.

While in the emergency shelter, Deja completed her CNA/GNA certification as a nursing assistant and was awarded the honor of being named class Valedictorian. Not wasting any time, Deja immediately enrolled in classes to become a Registered Nurse, all while holding down a part time job and being a wonderful mother to her daughter.

“The more effort you put into Sarah’s House, the more you are going to get out of it,” Deja says.

Deja recently advanced into the Transitional Housing Program at Sarah’s House. She now lives in a one-bedroom apartment on the property, and has applied to get a car through the Vehicles for Change program. Peyton attends the Sarah’s House Childcare Center, where she is doing extremely well.

While in Transitional Housing, Deja continues to work towards increasing her income and strengthening her financial skills to ensure that her family never experiences homelessness again.
