Parish Social Ministry
Catholic Charities' Parish Social Ministry works with parishes to foster their social justice and outreach ministry, educates parishioners to serve those who are poor and vulnerable through both charity and justice, and provides opportunities for the spiritual development of individuals in this ministry.
Many of our views about people who are experiencing life’s struggles come through the lens of media coverage or more distant observations. These perspectives do not always include the myriad of causes and effects that impact people’s lives each day.
Catholic Charities is pleased to offer Project AWARE, an interactive, hands-on educational experience that helps to broaden people’s perspectives on those in need. Project AWARE exposes participants to realities that deepen their understanding and appreciation of the realities of life that affect our clients.
Project AWARE is ideal for groups - including staff, councils, adult education, social justice committees and youth groups. Each session includes time to reflect on the experience and consider ways to take action.
We have upcoming sessions scheduled at the Esperanza Center, Caritas House, Our Daily Bread Employment Center and Weinberg Housing and Resource Center and Head Start. To sign-up today or for more information, please contact Dennis M. Murphy at email@example.com or 410.261.6781. You can also download our brochure (PDF).
How can we help you "grow" your social justice and outreach ministry?
"From the time you came down here and talked at weekend Masses, our parish has been bubbling over with people interested in getting involved.” -Ed Kirk, Our Lady of the Fields
- on the outreach/peace and justice committee?
- on the pastoral council?
- a catechist?
- on a parish staff?
- a parishioner interested in social justice?
Not listed here? Never fear, we work with a wide range of parish folks. After all, social justice is the work of every baptized Christian.
Grounded in our Catholic beliefs, we work with parishes to develop and foster their social justice and outreach ministry. This means that we are a resource for support, guidance and information on a variety of topics and possibilities for your parish’s social ministry. We offer workshops, retreat days, and educational sessions on Catholic Social Teaching and social concerns topics.
