The History of Christopher Place

Christopher Place opened in 1983 as a day shelter for men that provided showers, clothing, telephone access, laundry facilities, and other basic services. One hundred men were served daily and 32 men stayed in the overnight emergency shelter.

In 1996, Christopher Place forged a new direction and evolved into a Residential Employment Academy focusing on employment training, job placement, and recovery support for homeless men. The men were trained in employability skills and self-improvement skills.

Forty-four academy classes have graduated from the program and over 800 men have been served over the past 14 years.
