The Magic of Christmas

The celebration of Christmas at St Vincent’s is magical for the children who live at this diagnostic treatment program. For some children, this is the first time that they have ever felt so loved, so special, and so important. Staff helps the children understand that it’s not the abundance of gifts that matters, but rather that they matter to others.
The history of celebrating Christ’s birth by giving to these vulnerable children is legendary. To single out just a few examples, Our Lady of Fatima and St. Augustine’s, Elkridge, make sure that the children have new outfits to celebrate in. Immaculate Conception, Towson, and the Catholic Community of St. Francis Xavier, Hunt Valley, provide needed clothing and recreational opportunities over the holidays. To add to the festivities, the children at Immaculate Heart of Mary School, Towson, make dinner favors and decorations. There are too many generous people who provide gifts to list, but we are grateful to every one…and so are the children.
According to Ellen Torres, Director of Development for Child and Family Services, “Some say it takes a village to raise a child. At St. Vincent’s, we believe that these children deserve the same wonderful Christmas experience that we would want for our own children. It takes a multitude of individuals and groups to make this happen. Thanks to the outpouring of support, our children do feel valued and very special. This is absolutely the happiest celebration of welcoming the Christ child that I’ve ever seen.”
