Senior Maintenance Mechanic Maurice Braswell

As the senior maintenance mechanic at Basilica Place Senior Housing, Maurice Braswell is responsible for completing work orders submitted by residents ranging anywhere from fixing a leaky faucet to repairing a broken air conditioner unit. He ensures that everything from the elevators to the generators are in working order and pass inspection.
Maurice was hired at Basilica Place in 1996 as a porter and four years later was promoted to maintenance mechanic at Friendship Station. In 2002 he moved back to Basilica Place, Catholic Charities’ oldest and largest senior housing building.
“I love working here. Everything about it is great . . .my co-workers and the residents. I like to laugh and I get along with people. This is a great job for me,” Maurice says.
During the five months without a maintenance supervisor at Basilica Place, Maurice took on extra responsibility because he knew there were things that needed to be done.
“You never would have known we were short staffed because Maurice jumped in and took care of everything. He kept things running smoothly,” says Housing Manager Lisa Williams.
Maurice also takes emergency call for the building every third week. According to Lisa, he doesn’t hesitate to rush back in if he is called and he does it with a smile.
“Maurice is extremely reliable and very thorough. He is a great asset to Basilica Place,” she says.
