Introducing the 2010 Catholic Charities Dragon Boat Team

The Catholic Charities Dragon Boat team has been putting their heart and soul into weekly practices. Chris Kelly from the Center for Family Services has returned for his second run as co captain, joined by Human Resources' Rey Smith who is back for his third year helping to lead the team. Rey also paddled in 2002 and was the steerer in 2004. Marvin Estes from St. Vincent's Center has reprised his role as steerer for his third Dragon Boat Race. First-time dragon boat participant Mallory Gunser, who works in Fiscal Services, has agreed to serve as the drummer for the team.

Rey Smith, director of management development and training,  says, "As co captains, Chris and I determine what drills we do and what skill we work on at practice.  I enjoy seeing employees from throughout the agency work together. Friendships are created that last far beyond the Dragon Boat season.   There are people in other divisions that I never would have known and have become friends with because of Dragon Boats."

Team Spirit Committee

In addition to the folks in the boat, the team Spirit Committee is tasked with writing a chant, creating a drummer’s hat and decorating the team tent. They will also organize the Catholic Charities Pep Rally.
