Senior residents at Catholic Charities Senior Housing at Reister’s View in Reisterstown collected and refurbished toys to be given to needy children for Christmas. Under the direction of 85-year-old resident Madeline Baker, toys were repaired and clothing was made for dolls and stuffed animals. More than 215 new toys were donated to the drive by alumni from the Baltimore chapter of Mount St. Mary’s University. A supportive relationship between the alumni and senior residents began seven years ago when the Baltimore chapter was paired with the senior housing apartment during Catholic Charities Dragon Boat Races, a biennial athletic fundraiser. Throughout the year, members of the chapter have been active participants.
Jan Pennington, manager of Reister’s View says, “This was a wonderful opportunity for our residents to socialize with our volunteers from Mount St. Mary’s while also doing a good work for others. It proves no one is too young or too old to contribute.”
