Our Daily Bread to receive 5% of sales on March 24 at Whole Foods Market of Mt. Washington

Catholic Charities’ Our Daily Bread hot meal program will be the recipient of five percent of net sales on Tuesday, March 24 at Whole Foods Market of Mt. Washington. Whole Foods is located at 1330 Smith Avenue and is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Activities for the day include: live musical performances by volunteer coordinators of Our Daily Bread; a raffle of Our Daily Bread volunteer aprons; a children’s after-school placemat-making workshop from 4 – 5 p.m. (limited space); an all-day giveaway of original recipes served at Our Daily Bread since 1981; and celebrity bagging from 5 – 7 p.m. A photo display and literature will provided to inform shoppers about the free meal program that has never missed serving a meal since opening its doors 28 years ago

Our Daily Bread is located at 725 Fallsway at Our Daily Bread Employment Center, the nation’s first comprehensive resource center for the poor, offering employment services and housing referral. In 2008, 215,331 meals were served, averaging 683 people served each day. Casseroles, that are a staple of the program, are prepared and served by a corps of volunteers from businesses, schools, churches and synagogues.
