Jenkins Senior Living Community celebrates 80th Anniversary on September 29 with GalaSeptember 20, 2007 Renee Johnson, September 20, 2007-On Saturday, September 29, Catholic Charities’ Jenkins Senior Living Community will host “The Jenkins Gala” to celebrate its 80th year. The black tie optional event under a tent will be held 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on the 25-acre campus, located at 3320 Benson Avenue in Baltimore. Tickets are $80. Proceeds from the event will be used to create a pavilion on the campus. The 1920s-theme will feature vintage automobiles, jazz music, fine dining and a pictorial display that spans the history of the programs for seniors. The evolution of the senior campus began in 1927 with a bequest from Elizabeth Jenkins that established Jenkins Memorial Hospital. The Daughters of Charity were wards of the hospital with Catholic Charities taking operation in 1989. Catholic Charities is Maryland’s leading private nonprofit provider of human services, welcoming and serving people of all faiths and races. Rooted in faith, the Agency has a rich history of effective programs that significantly improve the lives of children and families, seniors, the disadvantaged, and people with developmental disabilities.
