A gift of $20,000 was awarded by Citi to Catholic Charities’ Our Daily Bread Employment Center (ODBEC), which houses Maryland’s largest daily hot meal program serving over 267,000 meals last year.  Mary McDowell, President and CEO of CitiFinancial North America, made a formal presentation on December 8 at the comprehensive resource center. ODBEC is located at 725 Fallsway.

“We are grateful for Citi’s generous support,” says Christine Kay, director of ODBEC.

“Through this partnership, we will provide vital nutrition, education, and employment resources to those with no where else to turn, enabling individuals to overcome barriers and move from poverty to stable employment.”

Citi also donated $15,000 earlier in the year to fund a financial literacy program for homeless women at Catholic Charities’ My Sister’s Place Women’s Center (MSPWC). MSPWC is a comprehensive resource center for impoverished and homeless women and their children, providing meals, respite, education, employment opportunities, and personal services.

The programs of ODBEC include Our Daily Bread hot meal program; Christopher Place Employment Academy, a residential program for formerly homeless men; and Catholic Charities Employment Services, a job-readiness program that includes computer literacy, resume writing, job placement and job referral. The Center also provides case management and an array of services by Catholic Charities and partner providers. Additional services include eviction prevention, emergency and referrals services, adult basic education, limited medical services, recovery support, assistance with criminal background issues, access to telephones, mail distribution, and workshops on homeownership and healthy relationships.

Catholic Charities is Maryland’s leading private, nonprofit provider of human services. Through cherishing the Divine within, the agency serves 160,000 people annually through 80 programs.
