Services Available at My Sister's Place Women's Center

My Sister’s Place Women’s Center (MSPWC)  is the combined home of three Catholic Charities programs, described below, and provides, among other things, housing assistance, education and life skills training, benefits advice and enrollment, case management, emergency financial assistance, links to other community providers (e.g., for mental health and addiction services), financial literacy programming, and personal services (e.g., shower and laundry facilities, mail and telephone access, etc.). MSPWC also provides three meals each day to women and children in need.  The program serves on average 150 women and children daily. 

The following programs are included in My Sister’s Place Women’s Center:

My Sister’s Place

My Sister's Place is a day program in Baltimore for homeless women and their children that provides shower and laundry facilities, case management, life skills workshops, and three meals each day.  Its primary purpose is to provide a safe alternative to the streets from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. seven days each week.  In FY 2009, My Sister’s Place Women's Center served 817 women for the first time, 36 women were placed in jobs, and 114 women received housing.


 

The Samaritan Center

The Samaritan Center, a joint program of Catholic Charities and St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore, provides direct financial assistance to help with rent, utilities, and traveler’s assistance. In FY 2008, 1,041 people received financial assistance through the program.  In FY 2009, 209 people were served through eviction prevention, 440 people were served through utility assitance, and 299 people were served through travelers aid. 

Families that Work

Families that Work is a welfare-to-work program that assists Temporary Cash Assistance customers who are pregnant in attaining the life skills and employment skills necessary to secure employment and maintain healthy, balanced lives. The program, which started in the fall of 2006, enrolls approximately 20 new clients each month.
