Services Available at My Sister's Place Women's CenterMy Sister’s Place Women’s Center (MSPWC) is the combined new home of three existing Catholic Charities programs, described below, and provides, among other things, housing assistance, education and life skills training, benefits advice and enrollment, case management, emergency financial assistance, links to other community providers (e.g., for mental health and addiction services), financial literacy programming, and personal services (e.g., shower and laundry facilities, mail and telephone access, etc.). MSPWC also provides three meals each day to women and children in need. It is projected that the program will serve between 50 and 100 women and children daily.
Did you know? Since November 2008, My Sister’s Place Women’s Center has served more than 29,000 meals to hungry women and children in Baltimore. The following programs are included in My Sister’s Place Women’s Center: My Sister’s PlaceMy Sister's Place is a day program in Baltimore for homeless women and their children that provides shower and laundry facilities, case management, life skills workshops, and two meals each day. Its primary purpose is to provide a safe alternative to the streets from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. seven days each week. My Sister’s Place served 888 women and 230 children in FY 2008, with an average of 47 women and 4 children each day. Although My Sister’s Place has operated as a free-standing program since its inception, it will now be one component of MSPWC. While women and children will still be able to come to MSPWC for shelter, they will be able to access a broader array of services, resources, and referrals. ![]() The Samaritan CenterThe Samaritan Center, a joint program of Catholic Charities and St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore, provides direct financial assistance to help with rent, utilities, and traveler’s assistance. In FY 2008, 1,041 people received financial assistance through the program. At MSPWC, families in need will be able to access these same services; however, they will also be able to take advantage of other services, such as case management and financial literacy programming, provided at MSPWC. Families that WorkFamilies that Work is a welfare-to-work program that assists Temporary Cash Assistance customers in their third trimester of pregnancy in attaining the life skills and employment skills necessary to secure employment and maintain and healthy, balanced life. The program, which started in the fall of 2006, enrolls approximately 12 new clients each month.
