My Sister's Place Welcomes New Staff

Albert in the kitchen at MSPWC

Albert Dankwah Westmoreland, a native Baltimorean, is the new cook at My Sister’s Place Women’s Center. He began on October 21st and hit the ground running, using his creativity to improvise meals from the donated food in the MSPWC pantry.

Albert’s cooking experiences includes cooking for ten years in the Military, owning his own catering company, and working as a pastry chef with Martin's West. Albert, a father of three and grandfather of three, is looking forward to the chance to give back to his community by feeding the women of My Sister’s Place, whose enjoyment he considers the greatest reward of the job.

Jessica Oxley, a Project SERVE volunteer, is from Arlington, Virginia and is a recent graduate of Wofford College in South Carolina. Project SERVE is program of Catholic Charities, which consists of a year-long full-time service-learning volunteer process and houses participants in an intentional community setting.

Jessica at her desk

In August, Jessica began her work with MSPWC as the Volunteer Coordinator. Her primary responsibilities include recruiting and scheduling volunteers; managing the volunteer calendar; overseeing donations; and orienting new volunteers. She enjoys her daily interaction with both volunteers and the women served at MSPWC. Jessica plans to attend graduate school working in the area of public policy.  She sees this volunteer experience as a first-hand introduction to the demographic she hopes to serve someday in a legislative capacity.
