A Family Navigator is the parent or caregiver of a child with special needs, who has learned from the challenges of being caregiver, and is knowledgeable about Baltimore County support services and delivery systems. A Family Navigator can work with you over the phone or meet with you at a time and location that is convenient for you to help you identify your strengths and challenges and develop a plan of action.

Family Resource Academy: Supporting Resilience Within Families

Please join us for the Family Resource Academy, a FREE series of interactive workshops designed to provide support, strength, and understanding that can enhance your ability to parent a child with intensive behavioral health needs.

Free childcare will be provided on-site for children ages 3 - 14 with preregistration. Transportation will be available on a limited basis, for Baltimore County families who do not own a vehicle and need this support to attend. Family to Family

Family to Family is a free 12-week course sponsored by NAMI, National Alliance on Mental Illness, for close relatives of individuals with severe mental illness.

The course teaches the clinical treatment of major mental illnesses and the knowledge and skills that family members need to cope more effectively. Topics include: communication skills, coping techniques, brain biology, medications, advocacy and more and are taught by other family members. NAMI Metropolitan Baltimore is sponsoring three classes this winter/spring session. Participants must call to register. and the joys that come with this special relationship.

Tuesday, September 25 - Understanding the IEP
Understanding and information will make you the best advocate for your child when it comes to forming and implementing the IEP.

Tuesday, October 23 - ADHD
What you may see as just bad behavior might be something more. We will explore current thoughts on diagnosis and treatment.

Tuesday, November 13 - Family Connections
Extended family members often have difficulty relating to and connecting with a child who has a disability. We will look at ways to help enhance understanding and connections.

Reduced Fee Internet Services

If your child qualifies for free or reduced lunches, you may qualify for a reduced price on internet services through Comcast. To qualify for $9.95 a month Internet service and a low-cost computer, your household must meet all these criteria:

  1. Be located where Comcast offers Internet service
  2. Have at least one child receiving free school lunches through the National School Lunch Program
  3. Have not subscribed to Comcast Internet service within the last 90 days
  4. Not have an overdue Comcast bill or unreturned equipment
