A Family Navigator is the parent or caregiver of a child with special needs, who has learned from the challenges of being caregiver, and is knowledgeable about Baltimore County support services and delivery systems. A Family Navigator can work with you over the phone or meet with you at a time and location that is convenient for you to help you identify your strengths and challenges and develop a plan of action.


Baltimore County Kinship Care Program

The challenges of raising grandchildren and other related children can severely stretch the resources a family has available to them. As a kinship care provider, you may be eligible for certain resources to help you raise the child you are caring for. 

A Kinship Care Navigator can connect you with:
 
Financial assistance resources
Support for housing
Child care Resources
Health care services
Legal services
Support groups
Behavioral/mental health services
Educational advocates

What is Kinship Care ?

Kinship Care means 24-hour a day care and supportive services to a minor child in the home of a relative by blood or marriage. Kinship Care families may or may not have a formal connection with the Department of Social Services. 

When shoud you contact a Kinship Care Navigator?

Anytime!
If you have questions or are overwhelmed with your challenges as a caretaker, feel free to call. A Kinship Care Navigator is knowledgeable about the service systems in Baltimore County, and is available to provide support and guidance. A Kinship Care Navigator can help you find what you need at no cost.

KINSHIP CARE FAMILY SUPPORT GROUP - Sponsored by Child and Family Services and Open to ALL Families in the Community

Kinship Care Family Support Group meets on the LAST Thursday of every month, except for holidays

Purpose: To provide support and to help kinship families to find solutions to the challenges they face in caring for grand children, nieces/nephews, etc.

Location: Creative Kids Community Center; 958 Ashbridge Drive; Essex MD 21221

Dates: Aug. 25, 2011; Sept. 29, 2011; Oct. 27, 2011; Nov. 17, 2011 (this is 3rd Thursday, due to Thanksgiving Holiday); Dec. 29, 2011; Jan. 26, 2012; Feb.   23, 2012; Mar. 29, 2012; Apr. 26, 2012; May 31, 2012; June 28, 2012

Time: 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Dinner: Pizza and soda

Childcare: Provided for children, ages 3 to 14, with an RSVP
