Help us to open doors to a fuller life for people with developmental disabilities by volunteering or making a gift to the Gallagher Family Fund to support our 49 homes and three day programs located in Baltimore City, Baltimore, Anne Arundel, and Harford Counties.

Over the past five years, families of individuals living at Rosewood began contacting Rick Rowland, Director of Residential Services, about the possibility of serving their family members in Gallagher’s homes.  This was in anticipation of Rosewood’s closing in 2009.  A common concern was how well their family members would be served in the community since many of the individuals had been living at Rosewood for thirty or forty years or more.  As reassuring as Rick and his staff could be, it would take time.  For one of the first families to contact him, this was certainly true.  However, once their family member had settled successfully into her new Gallagher home in Timonium, their concerns were put to rest.  Over the next several years, five more individuals made a successful transition from Rosewood to the Gallagher Community.  With that experience behind him, Rick began working closely with Service Coordination on plans to assist other families and individuals to make the move from Rosewood into the community.  To date, 25 individuals have made this successful transition and are currently enjoying the opportunities that living in the community affords.

Gallagher Services Fine Art Studio was dedicated on October 13, 2006. The art studio and program were made possible by the generosity of Jerome Fine in memory of his beloved wife Beverly, an accomplished author and poet. In exploring ways to remember Beverly, Mr. Fine decided to focus on the arts because of Beverly’s keen interest in the arts.

Kelly Schnitzker, Gallagher’s Art Therapist, started the Art Program in September 2006. She now has over 40 individuals in her classes and has developed a curriculum around seasonal themes with a variety of mediums, including painting, collage, assemblages, and three-dimensional design. Participants have been thrilled with their work and are always anxious to take their art works home. Kelly is inspired by what the individuals are able to create, and how proud they are of their art work.
