Post Adoption Services

Catholic Charities is committed to providing ongoing "post-adoption" services to members of the adoption triad involved with our agency - adoptees, irthparents, and adoptive parents- at all stages of the life cycle.
We recognize that adoption truly is a "life-long process." We have a variety of services available for all those in the adoption circle -birthparents, adoptive parents and adopted persons.

Services Available:

Counseling, assessment, and referral

These services are offered to adoptive parents and their children who are experiencing
difficulties, issues or adjustments related to their adoption experience.

Support Group

A Support group is currently available for adults who are considering a search, or who are dealing with the aftermath of a search.
This group is open to any adult adoptee or birthparent, regardless of wheter they were adopted through Catholic Charities in the process of search and reunion.

Birth and background histories

Non-identifying birth and background histories are provided to adoptive parents and or adopted persons whose adoptions were facilitated through Catholic Charities of Baltimore.
Adoptees must be 18 or over to receive their background information directly. The current fee for this service is $100.00

Adoptive family profiles for birthparents

A birthparent who made an adoption plan for his/her child through Catholic Charities may request this services. The current fee for this service is $100.00.

Search, reunion, and intermediary services

Catholic Charities has been providing search and intermediary services for over fifteen years.
A new Maryland law, enacted in 1999 expanded these services.
Search and confidential intermediary services are available upon request, for a fee, to adult adoptees who were adopted through Catholic Charities of Baltimore , at least 21 years of age, and to birthparents, whose children are at least 21 years of age. Catholic Charities has licensed "confidential intermediaries" on staff to assist you.
We have developed many supportive services in conjunction with search, including counseling to assess readiness and to prepare for the various outcomes of search and a monthly support group.

International Intermediary Services

Catholic Charities acts as an intermediary with overseas agencies to facilitate post-adoption services and connections with birth relatives, when possible and appropriate.
Counseling and support are offered to adoptees and adoptive families during this process.

Workshops, Presentations and Discussions for adoptive parents and adopted children on pertinent adoption issues

Korean Homeland Tours

Catholic Charities sponsors an annual family tour to Korea in partnership with Korean Homeland Tours.
This tour for adoptive parents and their children adopted from Korea is an enriching experience and gives the Korean adoptees an opportunity to explore their roots with other adoptive families in the context of a well-organized well balanced and fun-filled tour of Korea.
This is highly recommended for adoptive families with children who are 10 or older.

Social and Cultural Events for Adoptive Families

Catholic Charities sponsors an annual picnic, usually held in June, for all adoptive families, and a
Multi-Cultural Gathering for international adoptive families and a Reunion Celebration for domestic adoptive families held in November for National Adoption Month.
